WEEK 16 – w/c 17/01/11 (Ancillary 1 Submission)
This week i submitted my 1st Ancillary Task draft, i showed my college colleuges the movie poster that i created with the minor changes that i made this week based on asking people to view my poster and tell me what they believe is missing from it. When i showed my poster to the rest of the class i recieved some constructive critisism about some of the comments on the poster among other things, an example of this is:
On my poster wrote a coming soon comment under the tagline similar to that of the one used in the film poster for Boyz N The Hood. I tried to put a London style slang twist on "Coming soon to a hood near you" by making it "Rollin' Thru ure Endz Real Soon".
However when i showed this to my classmates it was evident that it was poorly recieved and therefor gave me some insight on what i need to do for my final Ancillary product. Other relevant comments made pretaining to my movie poster are:
- I should take away the line at the top of the poster because i am not supposed to use names of films i have not gotten premission to use.
- I also do not have premission to use the logos of other production companies
- The credits text does not look like it was professionally done like in the real movie posters, the text should be narrow and thin in terms of weight so that you can just about read it when squinting.
WEEK 15 – w/c 10/01/11 (Ancillary 1)
This week i am actually going to start creating my first Ancillary project in Adobe Photoshop. The 1st Ancillary is a promotional movie poster for the film that me and my partners are creating a teaser trailers for. First off i have gone around asking people which shots out of the ones that i took the previous week looked the best or was most appealing to them and the shot below came out on top so i am going to use this image to create my poster.
To being with i started cutting up the image into different layers so that i could put another image behind the youth on the floor without it being blocked by the wall.
However when i did this the image started to look messy and uneven, to fix this i simply using the quick selection tool, carefully selected the right segments of the picture and duplicated these part and positioned them to make the wall look full and neater as shown below. This techniques is known as a Clone Stamp which i learned to do in my IT Course.I then went on to un-hide the other layers, after which i added some smoke effects by download them from www.officialpsds.com where you can download quality photoshop PSD files to meet most needs. I then edited these smoke effects by manually free-transforming them them so that they would stretch of into different angles.
After this was done i looked for a grim reaper hood in google image search and found a picture of a grim reaper costume which is shown below.
I then got rid of the unnecessary parts of the image that i did not need like the scythe and the hands colour. i then went onto change the brightness and contrast to meet my neeeds. I then proceeded to feather the edges and then put the image on my poster in between the youth on the floor and the brick wall. This shot is intended to make the viewer feel as if the reaper is trying to drag the youth to hell and he is trying to get away like an injured dog, this has connotations to both genres of my teaser trailer as the hell part relates to the horror side of things while the dog part is meant to sort of mimic the way that hooded youth walk around with their dogs (as a weapon)
To create the title for my poster i used Impact at size 350pt, i made the fill white and i gave it a black 32px stroke via the blending options. I then proceeded to the filter tab at the top of the program screen and selected the blur option i decided that i wanted to do a motion blur for my image.
This is how the text now looks, by using the motion blur i wanted to make the text give off a ghostly effect which is usually black and grey and unstable. I also added in some extra pieces also from official psds like the knife to make up the rest of my first draft of my poster.
